• Thesis/Practicum: Gender, Women's Liberation, and the Nation-State: A Study of the Chinese Opera 'The White-Haired Girl'

As an undergraduate, Bo Jia majored in History. This not only taught her how to properly analyze facts and increased her knowledge, but it also painted a historical map of the many ups and downs that various countries' women's liberation movements had to navigate through. With her understanding of Gender Studies, she wrote a series of related papers. She also enrolled in a 3-month course at Peking University on Gender Studies, which made her realize that the common knowledge about gender is often misconstrued, as it is a very complex issue. Furthermore, in order to broaden her horizon in the current status of Women's Studies, she has done her internship in Dalian Women’s Studies Institute from July to Sept. 2009. After she graduated, she worked in Dalian Women’s Studies Institute from Sept. 2010 to Jan. 2011, which gave her the opportunity to understand the development process of Women’s Studies.

Isabella graduated with a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2012 with a major in English and a minor in Feminist Studies. In her year off, Isabella worked on public outreach for Equality California, the largest and oldest LGBT lobbying organization in California. In this time, Isabella also worked for the Mayor of Los Angeles as the LGBT liaison intern. Her current research interests are the social ramifications of gender non-conforming individuals in Western cultures. Isabella hopes to eventually work with gender non-normative youth in the greater Los Angeles area.

Deevy Holcomb is a Management Analyst for a county Juvenile Community Justice department in Central Oregon. After her masters degree, she lived and worked in Johannesburg/Pretoria South Africa as writer/editor and research coordinator for a local government NGO called Idasa, for four years, which assisted in building local government institutions and practices in communities disenfranchised during apartheid. During this time, she conducted a significant amount of research, training and consulting on women's role in local government. She’s also involved in the regional Peace movement in her private life, trying to keep this part of the world connected to the rest of the world, and understand better its role in the greater community of our planet. No further school since Rutgers; she has discovered through the Masters program that her feminist energies and skills were most satisfied and productive outside the academy. She does miss participating in a community of thinkers and philosophers, though.
