Carlos Burgos is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Rutgers University – New Brunswick and is pursuing an additional Certificate in Africana Studies. Carlos earned a BA in English with a concentration in Creative Writing: Poetry at Hunter College, City University of New York, and an M.S.Ed. in Higher Education from University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. His dissertation, “Striving White Black: (non)Life in the Wake of our Conscripted Desires,” focuses on the narratives that black men articulate in moments of striving and uncovers paradoxes of black masculinity.
