Karen has worked in academia and community and governmental organizations as an adjunct professor, clinician, researcher, and administrator to promote action on poverty, violence, animal and human rights, and for progressive social change. She has extensive experience in research, strategic planning, program development and evaluation, teaching, and fund development. Karen currently serves as the director of sexual assault services for New Mexico. She is the author of Art, Violence, & Social Change: Challenging Violence Against Women and Girls Through Entertainment Education (2008).
