Justice Kaunda Kamanga was appointed Judge of High Court of Malawi on 4 November 2012. She graduated from the University of Malawi in 1995 with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Degree. She proceeded to pursue postgraduate programmes and obtained a Master of Arts degree in Women’s Studies from Rutgers University, USA in 1997 and a Master of Laws degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Cape Town, RSA in 2013.She also holds certificates in NGO Management obtained from the Imperial College, University of London obtained in 2003 and in Investigating, Monitoring and Reporting on Human Rights Violations from FAHAMU/University of Oxford obtained in 2005.
She commenced has legal career in 1995 as an Associate with Messrs Racane Associates before joining the public service as a Legal Aid Advocate. From the Department of Legal Aid she joined Women and Law in Southern Africa as a Research Associate in the year 2000. She was appointed as a Principal Resident Magistrate in 2003 and rose through the various judicial ranks before being appointed Registrar of the High Court and Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal in 2008. Her areas of interest are in gender, criminal justice and the law.
