01:904:202 Practicing Social Justice

Purpose of Course/ Learning Objective:  This course will examine the historic patterns of social justice practice as well as its changing face– its new players, new strategies and new challenges. It will engage students in looking at social justice practice from three perspectives: (1) individuals who act; (2) the organizations that mobilize action; and (3) the social injustice contexts local national and global that move individuals and organizations to action.  It will explore a variety of strategies for action including: grassroots organizing, social media based organizing for political change and narrative change; identity based organizing.  Students will have opportunities to learn about an important social justice practitioner in their area of interest and will be encouraged to explore the roots of their own social justice practice.
